FOJ, the Book
Bringing together writing from the first three issues of Future Observatory Journal, our new book gathers some of the conversations, questions and perspectives that have shaped the journal so far
We established Future Observatory Journal to explore alternative narratives that could drive new directions for design, narratives that centre our relationship with the living world. Each of the themes we’ve explored so far – Bioregioning, More than Human and In Abundance – all challenge the dominant frameworks within which design operates. The themes also speak to each other in a mutually reinforcing way. They would be coherent, we felt, in a single volume. This is that volume.
Future Observatory Journal: New Narratives for Design, Ecology and a Future weaves the first three issues into book form, bringing together writing and visual propositions by leading thinkers, practitioners and researchers to investigate design’s role in a green and just transition. The book is a chance to re-examine the ideas we’ve explored through a new form, for new audiences.
Beautifully designed and realised by Studio Airport, the book rethinks and remixes the journal’s online content as a rich and tactile reading experience. The possibilities of the book as a format are endless and a source of joy, so we hope you lay your hands on a copy.
